A Letter From Your 2008-2009 PTA President

WELCOME Prairie Children Preschool New and Returning families,

The number one priority for parents is their children’s well-being.  More than 30 years’ worth of research has proven that children do better when their parents are involved both at home and at school.  Grades and test scores climb, self-esteem grows and the school experience improves.

There’s a simple way for YOU to help your child succeed:  Join your PTA (Parent/Teacher Association)

PTA helps parents, students, school staff, and communities work together to share ideas about programs and activities that benefit children.  Our PTA provides information and resources that strengthen the relationships between children, parents, schools and the community.

In the past year, Prairie Children Preschool PTA has

  • Held three social events for preschool families:  Fall Costume Party, Sweetheart Dance & End of Year Spring Picnic
  • Allocated $1,000 for PBIS Program (Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports)
  • Sponsored informational speakers for PTA meetings (i.e.: nutrition, behavior, discipline, etc.)
  • Sponsored storytellers, entertainers and exercise and dance programs for our students
  • Organized and sponsored a staff appreciation week
  • Provided spirit wear for students, parents and staff to purchase
  • Provided volunteers for vision & hearing screenings, school pictures, laminating for teachers, and greeters
  • Sent out birthday, congratulations, condolence and winter cards to staff
  • Presented scrapbook of PTA events to the preschool for display
  • Participated in the National Reflections art program
  • Provided luncheons for staff during Spring and Fall conferences
  • Held three charity drives to benefit Hessed House, Mutual Ground, Wayside Cross Ministries/Lifespring and preschool families in need
  • And much more!

PTA is America’s number one parent involvement resource.  By becoming a member, you will not only help your child in one of the most important ways possible but also receive valuable benefits:

  • Online parenting resources and other materials on issues relating to children’s education, health, and well-being
  • E-newsletters on parenting and legislative issues
  • Special offers and discounts from corporate supporters of PTA such as the Chicago Bulls
  • Access to leadership training opportunities
  • The Member-to-Member Network, connecting you to Congress to influence issues important to children, schools, and families in our area

Please join by filling out the membership form and returning it to Prairie Children Preschool attention Karen Duncan, Membership Processing Chair.  If you would like more information, please feel free to contact Karen at 630-922-8053 or via e-mail at duncmank@aol.com.  Please visit the PTA national website, www.pta.org , to sample the benefits you’ll reap when you join PTA.

REMEMBER:  Becoming a member does not mean you are signing up to volunteer.  The membership fees help fund these activities; however, we NEED volunteers execute the delivery so please consider the attached opportunities.  We appreciate any help you can provide!

I’m looking forward to an exciting year!

Brenda Montemayor

President, Prairie Children Preschool PTA
